Campfire is i-to-i's Travel community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!
Q: What is i-to-i campfire? A: It's the online community of the meaningful travel specialists i-to-i.com
I'm Rachel, I'm 20 and I'm from a fairly grim industrial town called Ellesmere Port in England. It's redeeming factor is that it's just on the other side of the River Mersey from Liverpool which is a city I feel at home in, miss and love dearly!
I consider myself to be a happy, positive thinking, ambitious, dreamy and VERY sociable person! I like to socialise whenever possible- nights out with friends, days out, big family meals and parties, etc are my favourite things to do! I'm also really into exercising- fitness classes, swimming, walking- anything that gets the blood pumping!
I'm just coming to the end of my second year at university in Manchester, studying Speech Pathology and Therapy and I am really enjoying myself- working hard and playing harder! Manchester is a great place to be a student, as there's so many of us! Moving away from home has also been fantastic, my family and friends back home are extremely important to me but I love everything about living independently- especially our little house and my beautiful housemates :)
I have never looked forward to a summer as much as I am looking forward to this summer! I am heading off to Greece in a couple of weeks with my friend for a much wanted break and hopefully loads of fun and probably far too much drinking and dancing! Then I am staying with my parents for a couple of weeks before I head off to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with I-to-I for a month, starting on the 2nd of July. I'm volunteering at the KY Quang Orphanage and hoping to do a lot of sight seeing and have a whole lot of fun!
I would LOVE to speak to anyone doing the same project at the same time as me, and also anyone who is doing a similar project or staying in Ho Chi Minh at the same time as me or if you just want to say hi, please do!!!

Have no plans set in stone, but I plan to do loads! I want to go to the museums and all that tourist stuff but I also want to seek out the good clubs and relaxing spots! Depends on the friends I make really.
Kind of interested in maybe taking a really short 'holiday' after I'm finished in Ho Chi Minh. Maybe cross the line over to Cambodia or something.
What about you?
I found out yesterday btw that I'll be at KY Quang too so looks like we're gonna be working together! Sounds like an amazing orphanage.
Rory.
Well my email add is martinpaulbyrne@eircom.net

Hi Rachel. I'm also off to Ho Chi Minh to work with orphans this July, but I'll be getting there on the 16th. Now that its getting close I really can't wait to get there. :)
Do you have any plans about what you're going to do in Vietnam?
Kate.
better if you tell me your email so I can put that into facebook as there are more than 75 of you lol!
I didn't get asked about which orphanage I wanted to go to, but did some research and asked a few others who did the placement which ones they went to, I then just asked I to I if I could go to a particular one, but they said it was undergoing renovations or something, so they offered another similar type one, I asked to go somewhere where it was both sexes or girls only, as I didn't want to go to a placement with children with special needs, as I don't have any experience in this field, and feel that I wouldn't do that great of a job, just ask them what sort nof orphanage you want to go to, and I'm sure they can organise it for you.
Laura
Hey Rachel,
I will be doing the same placement as you in June, from the 4th till the 18th (if finances pemit I hope lol!). I am only going for two weeks though as I want to travel to the north, I have to to fit it around uni so it is really the only time I can go. I did go to Thailand with i-to-i in 2007, it was great, it was a tour trip though, so we went to a few different places (not just one) - a girl's orphanage, tribal village, HIV/AIDS hospice and HIV/AIDS kindergarten, but we saw many sights along the way as well, it was great, but more expensive as everything was organised for us, including accomodation and the travelling etc. I've done a lot of volunteering as well in Aus, but to do it overseas is so different and amazing. I'm at uni doing psychotherapy, and mu undergrad was in social justice and public advocacy and social sciences so they are somewhat relevant to this sort of placement lol, as is your degree. I requested to go to a co-ed orphanage, and was allocated Hoa Mau Don which isn't far from the accomodation, so that is good to know, are you on facebook, as I find it so much easier to communicate on there!
Hi Rachel, welcome to campfire :) Well done on booking your trip... I'm sure it'll be great, I really enjoyed my i-to-i adventure and haven't met anyone who didn't so I'm sure you'll love yours too!
Hope you don't mind me asking, but I was hoping you could spare a minute to read my Ultimate Trip blog, and rate it using the stars at the end if you like it. I'm dead happy to have made the final six but need lots of support if I'm going to be lucky enough to win!! I'd be really grateful :)
