Building in Honduras 2010

Hola Amigos!

Just got back from building homes in Honduras for the last 2.5 weeks and had the most amazing time, can't wait to tell you all about it!

Some other time maybe...

Oh now you say? OK!

Stoewie and I from the i-to-i customer support team here had the opportunity to go alongside a group of 65 people from a security firm based in Canada, so we jumped at said chance!

Stoewie is based in Australia and used to work in the UK with me, so I was so excited to meet up with him, I know Elisa and Nick, who are the i-to-i team based in Honduras so overall, I was the most excited person ever in the run up and during this trip.

Flight over there was a cool 19hours with two flight changes, one in Madrid, one in Costa Rica. Nick and Elisa met moi at the airport and baggage made it through all the flight changes wich was a pleasant surprise and very handy... :) thanks so much Iberia!

Met an i-to-i customer, the lovely Hannah, on the flight to Costa Rica who just happened to be going over there on one of our projects, was very cool to meet her and completely random!

First impressions of Honduras? Well was dark so everything was very dark :) was supremely tired so sank a few glasses of wine with Elisa and Nick, popped a few herbal sleeping tabs then fell into a deep sleep!

Awoke to glorious Honduran sunshine the next morning and went to collect Stoewie from the airport! Yay! Fantastic seeing his little face come through arrivals and we were off! Let's get the trip plans sorted out then...over a liquid lunch! No! Not a liquid lunch Katie, but a typical Honduran plate of tortillas, sour cream, sausage, cheese and refried beans! Yummy, can get on board with Honduran food, apart from this cheese which tastes like feeeeeet. Will avoid in future.

Headed in to Tegucigalpa, the capital, for some last minute errands then sank another couple of glasses of wine, popped another coupla herbal sleeping tabs then fell into heavenly sleep!

Early start the next day - donned the regulation i-to-i staff polo shirt, put on shorts, quickly took shorts off again when told airport has air con, would turn blue otherwise...Glad I packed JEANS.

First group of arrivals landed around 9am, will be staying in the airport until 2pm we told them, expecting grumbles, but no...all very positive and lovely, went off to freshen up, smoke ciggies, purchase more ciggies etc. Good so far!

Next group of arrivals in at 11am, will be staying in the airport until 2pm we told them, expecting mirth, but no! All positive, went to change money, call home, purchase ciggies and beer etc! Love Canada!

Big group of arrivals in at 1pm, Elisa and Nick got special permits to go into arrivals baggage area (where I always want to jump on baggage wheel and go around and around until removed from airport by security) so all goes smoothly, no bags lost, no people lost, all good! Welcome to Honduras we say!

Had cocktails and traditional Honduran necklaces ready as arrival gifts which went down well! Had big group photo taken, was not in said photo as was guarding the baggage with my life in the back of a pick up truck. If push came to shove, perhaps would not actually give up my life in exchange for bags, as group has travel insurance, but put on best MENACING FACE anyway.

So we board buses to Valle De Angeles and we're out!

Airpock pickup - Done.
