Enjoying the last few days now. At least the weather has improved and it has been sunny the last 2 days, nicely warm. Today, I took a ferry across the River Plate, the worlds widest estuary to Uruguay to the town of Colonia Del Sacramento. It was well worth it , such a beautiful place I would love to return. Full of cobbled streets, the pace of life is slow and the scenery is beautiful,...
Just when I thought when the rain had passed it returned again with a vengeance, torrential rain for most of the day. I manage to see the parliament buildings and the inside of lots of shopping centres today but not much else. The highlight of my day though was the Palacio de Aguas Corrientes, the most beautiful building so huge it takes up a whole block. Formerly, until 1978 it served the whole of Buenos...
Its my last weekend in Argentina. Im enjoying the cooler weather, it hasnt rained as much as forecast but it has been cloudy and has drizzled on and off today. Yesterday, did lots of walking and toured the Casa Rosada, the pink palace where Eva Peron spoke to 'her' people in the Plaza de Mayo below and where most political demonstrations are held. There is a demonstration currently about the Falklands with lots of banners...
Complete contrast when I arrived in Buenos Aires. In Posadas it was still sweltering heat, in Buenos Aires which is about 1000km further south, torrential rain. It ws so bad yesterday there were live feeds on the TV last night about the chaos and wringing of hands about why they werent prepared again for the deluge, ( We Brits are not the only ones) When I was in the shopping centre there was a complete...
Last day today, we went to the park and Mitzu bought some spray foam cans which the kids loved and because it was my last day, they covered me in foam and Andrew and Mitzu too. The children kept asking me this morning to take them to the cinema again but its out of my hands now and I reminded them its my 'ultimo dia' ( last day). There have been occasions during my four...
A fabulous weekend spent at the Iguazu Falls. The Iguazu national park is outstanding and the way they have set up the viewing points for the falls is fantastic. There are lower and higher trails and all I can say is that you have an expectation about what the falls might be ike, but they are so magnificent they completely astound you by their sheer size. At some points you can literally stand under 100ft...
Okay, Ive managed to organise some serious spending of donations today which took four hours but glad to be able to help out with everyones donations which have bought some essential things for the orphanage and are as follows 1 X large Fridge/ Freezer ( the only fridge they had was broken and not used for what looks like years). In this heat its really essential. 1 X Television ( they have a tiny one...
After the storm yesterday, the night was much cooler and I slept all the way through without sweating profusely and as a result feel much better. The heat has returned today, though a little cooler at 35C, a bit more bearable. Am grateful though for the break from the British winter. Im sorry that its cold and grey there ( a little bit). I forgot to mention that Walter spat in my face yesterday, but...
Didnt sleep hardly at all last night. It was pushing low 40´s C yesterday and last night was the hottest Ive experienced. It was so humid I felt it was difficult to breathe and consequently slept in fits and starts. I felt okay when I got up but didnt have much energy and the stomach cramps started to return whilst I was at the project. It was very hot to start with but then came...
