Ok, I took the big step, and I have finally signed up for my first volunteer holiday! I will be visiting Xian, China, volunteering with the children starting on the 16th of July. I am excited, nervous and maybe a bit scared, lol, I mean, I am visiting a country that is so different from Australia, both culturally and economically, plus first time traveling by myself. I don't know a word of Chinese to start off with, lol, so the first thing on my list is a phrase book. There is so far 7 of us in the shared accomodation house, even though they are strangers, I wont be alone in the country.

Anyone else starting on August 6th? Linn, I'll probably see you in August?
Very exciting!
Hi there,
Me too I'm sooo excited. I won't arrive before 20th August though. You probarly left by then :( But wish you all the best and good luck =)
Hi Leesa - I will be travelling to Xian for the 16th July also - however I am volunteering with Giant Pandas. I will be at the volunteer house until 19th July and then go to the Panda Centre around 1.5 hours away - not sure if it is the same house in Xian but I may see you there. I have travelled quite a bit and been to China before but I am still a little nervous - mainly because later on in China I will be teaching English which I have never done before - but it will be fine.
Ooh we bet you're so excited and China is such a great destination, first time travel can always seem a bit daunting but once you get into the swing of it you'll have an amazing time; check out some of our handy guides here http://www.i-to-i.com/campfire/travel-guides/categories/2-First-Time-Traveller
