Campfire is i-to-i's Travel community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!
Q: What is i-to-i campfire? A: It's the online community of the meaningful travel specialists i-to-i.com
I'm 18 and live in Ipswich, Suffolk. Just finished my A levels and have a place at Canterbury Christchurch University for September 2010.
I love spending time with my friends and family, reading a good book, going to the cinema, swimming etc.
I decided to take a gap year as I couldn't face the idea of going straight to Uni!
I'm going to Kenya as I went on holiday there in 2007 and fell in love with it - the people, the country, everything. Can't wait to get back. After the two months teaching in Kitengela, I am planning to spend three or four months on an overland trip down in South Africa, if I can get enough money together!
What do I love about life? Hmm... that's tricky! Travelling...

Hiya Katie, thanks for accepting my friednship :) I see you're going to Kenya... I'm so jealous as my parents went backpacking there before they had me and always rave about what a great place it is! I'm dying to go to Africa, just trying to save up some pennies! When are you going??
Hope you don't mind me asking, but I was hoping you could spare two minutes to read my Ultimate Trip blog and rate it if you like it :) I'd be really grateful!

Thanks xx
It is safe, just obviously as your abroad theres general things you need to be aware of but you two will be told on sunday in your orientations. i wont be there as i am not travelling with i-to-i this time ive booked it all myself - much cheaper lol! I am arriving sunday 3rd jan so a week before you 2 and then im leaving fri 9th april so 14 weeks 100 days! At night time... usually priscilla wants us back at the house by 7.30ish when I was there anyway for dinner and because its pitch black by then and theres no lights around anywhere - all you can see is the lights from cars - no cars, no light. Plus once you get into the routine of school me and the other 3 volunteers were knackered by 9pm as up early every day. But there is a nice bar called Nomads which we went to pretty much every day for a drink after school before going back to priscillas to catch up on that days events!!
Very good at least there will be a few a few of us heading out the same time so! I still think I'll only be doing the teaching for 4wks but that might change yet . . .we'll see! I just turned 24 last week & this'll be my first time doing anything like this so feeling fairly nervous about the whole thing but then that's to be expected I suppose! Is it a safe place for travelling on ur own? Is it good fun and are there things to do at night?
ok scrap my question ive just read yr 18 and from UK lol
Right well... David is hilarious he laughs at EVERYTHING and priscilla is really sweet. They also have a 2 year old son called peter who is adorable and their own cleaner/cook/nanny all in one called Anne who doesnt speak much english but shes nice too. I went with british airways last time but this time it works out cheaper for me to go with kenya airways so will book that sometime next week. You will either go to Korrompoi or Kepiro school. I am returning to Korrompoi as I loved it there the first time so you will either be there too or at kepiro. Korrompoi is a 20-25 min ride on the matatu (local bus) from Kitengela and Kepiro school is an extra 5 minutes or so. Any more questions feel free to ask. Just for the record can I ask how old you are and what country you are from? I'm 21 from UK :-)
hey both of you! im returning to kenya the same date as katie for 12 weeks. i got back to the UK last week after going for my first time for 4 weeks! it was AMAZING so i am going bk to stay with priscilla again and go back to korrompoi primary school because the kids are incredible. if either of u have any questions just ask :-)
I start on the 9th January but planning to arrive on the 8th just to be there in time! need to get flights sorted though...! Im going to be there for 8 weeks - i finish on 6 March. After that im planning to do a 70 day overland trip down to South Africa, but havent booked that yet... not got enough money!
How old are you and where do you live?
Hi Kate!
Good to hear from u! I haven't booked my trip yet but I'm still very much set on going! Im hoping to go for a couple of months so that I can do some travelling after doing the whole teaching thing! Wat are ur plans or how long are u going for?!
