Hope you don't mind but I'm shamelessly begging for votes as the closing date for voting is fast approaching (in 5th place right now!) and SO many people seem to not be able to vote I need extra extra votes!!
This competition literally means everything to me. I'm now truly beginning to discover who I am, and find the path I need to be on. Winning this trip of a lifetime, one that from a financial point of view I cannot ever really seeing myself being able to afford, would literally change my life, shake up my world and give me another perspective. I beg of you to vote for me more than any other competitor, because not only would I use up every single second of it to the nth degree and make the absolute most of it, I think it would make the most of me. A way to make new connections, spark new possibilities, and give light and hope. A trip to expand and explore, my location and my own mind. A trip. Of a lifetime. PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!

Hey Joanna - I am getting in on the 1st around 11:30pm!! Are you getting a phone/SIM card or anything? I am trying to figure that out. 2 more months ;)

Heya - i'm going to be in mombasa the same time as you. Im volunteering at the aids orphanage from the 8th august for 3 weeks. I'm excited but nervous all at the same time as ive never done the whole travelling thing, especially going to a different continent on my own - the most ive done is a one way flight to northern ireland on my own and i somehow dont think that counts!
I've got no idea what im taking as yet or anything like that but do know that im definitely up for a safari and getting on the beach there - it looks glorious! Mozzarella has some brill photos if you havent seen them already.

Hi!!! I'll be in Mombasa, Kenya in the sharehouse in August too! Yah!
Hi Katie, thanks for the tips! Can't wait despite these annoying buzzing creatures. Won't let them spoil the whole fun. Is the voluteer house far from the orphanage? Will check Kellie's profile for safaris. Thanks again. I may have a few more questions later on so I allow myself to annoy you a bit more;-) gave a great wknd!
hey ladies, mozzie net at the house isn't really required as they already have them and are checked by the maids at the house. similarly, the safari lodge and indeed the beach hotels i stayed at either had a net or had a screen over the windows. i think its fair to say that you will get bitten at some point during your trip, there's not a whole lot you can do to prevent it but what i would advise is to take a thing called 'after bite' you can get it from most chemists. it's in a pen and contains ammonia but it takes the poison out of the bite so it doesn't itch. it stinks to high hell but it's worth it!
also be ready for the wednesday night tradition of karaoke on a wednesday night! have a look at kellie's profile for safaris :) you just HAVE to do one!
Hey Joanna!
I was excited to see we will be in Mombasa at the same time!! I arrive August 1st for four weeks. I will be in the volunteer house with you and DEFINITELY want to go on safari. I am also coming on my own... which is fun and a lil' scary! Keep in touch before the trip ;)
Kellie
Hey Katie, thanks for your message:-) I am going for 3 weeks from 1st August to 22nd. I am really excited and can't wait but I'm also kind of freaking out as I'm going on my own... I know I'm gonna meet people over there and it will be great. i think it's the journey that scares me most - I hate flying:-) I wish I could teleport:-) The biggest concern I have are... mosquitoes and the whole malaria thing... I am staying in the volunteer house and I was told the mosquito nets are provided but I'll get one (if I find it in Ireland!!!) for myself anyways. I also heard that lemon or citrus flavour scares them off... Any tips you could give me on that and other stuff? Is it safe over there? How about safaris - I'd like to go on one at least.
thanks again for getting in touch with me!

Hi Joanna! I just got back from the same project as you're going to - TWAAYF! it's such a great project, really well run but two ex street boys, they're a real inspiration without sounding really cheesy...
feel free to add me and have a look at my photos! how long are you going for? have a look at the mombasaaaaaa group by clicking on 'campfires' along the blue bar to find more people going to mombasa and let me know if you need more info!
Katie :)
