Hi everyone, hope this helps anyone fundraising at the moment!
Raising as much money as possible to cover my project cost (£1820) and flights (£514) seemed an unrealsistic goal when I booked with i-to-i about a year ago, but I've managed to raise £1600! And with more time to exhaust all my ideas and suggestions from people i'm sure it could've been even more.
'Cakes for Kenya!' Held a cake sale at my college and asked all my friends and one of my classes to make and donate cakes to the sale, on the day all my friends got involved and were fab sales people and from selling (hundreds!) of cakes that were max 50p each raised £155!!! :)
'Clothes for Kenya' Had a clothes-swap at my house with friends, it was £5 a ticket and everyone bought clothes and swapped what they wanted, great fun. Raised £70
' Music, Curry and Quiz Night' Organised and held an event at my church, with the help of a great youth worker. Costs for the event were practically none existant - no cost for hiring the hall, asked my friend to perform for free (well, a bottle of wine and her train fare :p), the Mother's Union donated all curry ingredients and my Nan cooked the curry (for 80 people), tables an chairs etc obv already there,. Sold tickets to the congregation for £5 each and many who couldn't come made donations, one even an anonymous generous £40! Was an amazing evening, really well attended and everyone had a great time! Raised roughly £800 in all!!
Writing to the right organisations and just asking and explaining will get you far!;
I wrote to local fundraising organisations and members clubs (round table, rotary etc) asking for help in funding my voluntary project in Kenya, in return for speaking at meetings once I come back. 3 grants totalling £300
I approached my church Parochial council asking for a small donation and they generously donated £100.
My old school have an 'Old (school name) Association' made up of alumni, parents, teachers and governers that fundraise and make grants for new paino's, sports gear, old pupils doing gap year projects etc....they kindly donated £150
Hope this helps anyone fundraising! :)
Exactly one week to go now until i leave for Mombasa.....!!!!
