All Fired Up
i-to-i’s Answer to 'Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook'
Anyone who has a burning desire to explore deepest, darkest Peru will be blown away by i-to-i’s latest offering: a three week eco tour in the north of the country.
The meaningful travel specialist is providing a unique opportunity for volunteers to have their Latin American taste buds tickled by getting really involved in the life of a local community in a small village in northern Peru.
Volunteers can choose from a one week appetiser, a two week taster or a full three week menu:
- The first week is a stove trek. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience building fuel efficient cooking stoves for families in the rural village of Chota. These cooking stoves help to improve the health and lifestyle of the communities who use them by providing families with much needed clean and economical cooking facilities.
- For those opting for two weeks, the second will be spent assisting with reforestation programmes in the area, specifically educating local children about the importance of trees and the forests. Volunteers can help support and develop a reforestation and environmental awareness programme, as well as demonstrating how to plant trees.
- For those indulging in the three week project, the last week will be spent working with street children and orphans at a local orphanage. Volunteers will be able to positively influence the lives of these children by playing games with them, reading to them and generally helping out in all aspects of the orphanage.
Following the launch of i-to-i’s meaningful tour, Delivery Manager, Matt Guiver said:
“This is definitely not the case of too many cooks spoil the broth! There are many families and communities in northern Peru who want and need these stoves - many more than we currently have volunteers to build them. So there is no shortage of work, and the families who receive a stove are thrilled! Volunteers can walk away knowing that they made an improvement in the quality of life for at least one family who desperately needed it.”
